Wow what a start to 2017. We have chosen a tricky time to start our weekly markets, Murphys law has prevailed yet again for me. It topped 39 degrees by 12 noon at Orange Grove (Lillyfield) on Saturday, when quite a number of the traders decided to call it a day we followed, very quickly, The customers had long gone, heading home to their air conditioning and pools or the beach!! hopefully we have seen the last of these extraordinarily high temperatures in Sydney for now. It's really hard to work. I feel for the potters working in their studios with their kilns going and mostly without air conditioning. This has been the hottest summer recorded in NSW for 158 years and Ii think we are all over it. Roll on Autumn!!
Next weekend (On Sunday 19th) we are at the Mardi Gras Fair Day in Camperdown, so we are praying for a cooler day. It should be fun with lots of entertainment and apparently lots of people (80,000 last year). We are waiting for our stall number and location and information on who else is there so that we can tell you more and will post more information onto the website and our Facebook page when we have more detail.
We exhibited some gorgeous work again this week - just one of the highlights was Nicola Coady's beautiful, hand coiled, double-throated vase seen on this page. It is beautifully understated and ideally suited for Ikebana arrangements, but can also be used for simple flower and leaf combinations as demonstrated here. It is a very special, unique piece which looks good on the bookshelf with or without flowers. It is available to buy here.
Last but not least - we are coming up to our 1st Birthday next week. Its hard to believe that we started this adventure on the 19th February last year - we didn't launch until later in the year, but the 19th February is the day we got Living Clay set up and started work. It took some time to source the right potters, build the website and get going. We launched on the 21st June - an excuse for another first birthday!!
Until next time
